EU Staff for Climate is a bottom-up initiative led by EU staff in their individual and private capacity. It brings together colleagues from across the EU institutions who are deeply concerned about the climate, ecological and social crisis facing our planet.
In March of this 2019 in solidarity with the global Youth for Climate movement, a group of EU staff members came together as concerned citizens, parents, grandparents and as employees whose duty is to act in the public interest.
In 2019, EU Staff for Climate launched a petition setting out a number of critical actions. The petition was developed from the solid and comprehensive work that several other groups of concerned staff had been working on to consolidate the scientific knowledge pointing to a planetary emergency. Over 11,000 EU staff colleagues signed the petition, which encouraged us to stand ready to work with EU leaders to achieve its goals together, for the good of the planet and its people.
Since then, the group has expanded, organising talks and events and writing policy papers and letters. It now has a circle of coordinators to help organise its activities and communicate about them but it remains an open group, welcoming all EU staff members, including retired colleagues.
The circle of coordinators has the following members (until the end of January 2022):
- Alexandre Vacher
- Anna Smedeby
- Caroline Gastaldi
- Georgios Amanatidis
- Gwenn Belbéoch
- Josefina Enfedaque
- Kevin O’Connor
- Minna Helminen
