In the spring of 2022, war returned to our continent on a scale not seen since the Second World War. A large number of EU colleagues were moved to support those affected by the crisis; many approached us to ask if our fund could help.
The EU Staff COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund (which has since evolved into the EU Staff Fund for a Fair and Sustainable Future) was set up as a way for EU staff to show their solidarity with the people in Europe worst hit by the pandemic. As a new humanitarian crisis began to unfold in Europe, we wanted to offer a means for EU staff to join together to show our collective solidarity with the people of Ukraine.
Our partnership with the Belgian King Baudouin Foundation and its extensive network enables us to quickly channel donations to humanitarian organisations working on the ground in Ukraine, but also in neighbouring countries as communities receive refugees.
To this end, we set up a special fundraiser to support the people of Ukraine through this humanitarian emergency.
We are organising this campaign with support from EU staff trade unions.
